Hok Tak Yeung and Chihoi Lee, both from Hong Kong, were born one in 1970 and the other in 1977. They are some of the most important authors of contemporary Chinese comics and constitutors of “Springroll”, by now become a cult magazine.
Chihoi Lee debuts in 1997 with The Writer, and at the same time with many writings and illustrations on the principal Chinese magazines and newspapers as “Cockroach”, “Singpao News” and “East touch”. He has been creating stories for many international magazines as “Orang” in Germany, “Canicola” in Italy, “Sea” in Switzerland, “Stereoscomic” in France, “Sai Comics” in Corea, and “Spoutnik” in Canada.
The Writer and Her Story, Piece of Mind and Still Life are his main works.
In his works Chihoi Lee puts together European influences and manga tradition, and transforms them into poetical and surreal stories. A part from his work as a comic author, he teaches comic language and visual arts, and he works as a journalist for “Mingpao”, one of the most important newspapers in Hong Kong.
Hok Tak Yeung’s first international appareance is due to Comix 2000, an anthology by the French indipendent publisher L’Association. In 2006 Actes Sud publishes Qu’elle était bleue ma vallée, a graphic novel, about a Hong Kong overpopulate neighbour, in which visual experimentation mashes up with pop aesthetics, from graphics to videogames.
The exhibition, assembled thanks to Bd à Bastia comic festival and Comica festival, taking place in Sala Ottagonale in the spaces of Palazzo D’Accursio, is going to present an overview on the two authors’ work.
